Urban Regeneration for Historic Cairo: Workshop on management, Public-Private partnering, economy revitalization, and cultural authentication

His Excellency Khaled Al Anany, Minister of Antiquities and Tourism will inaugurate next Sunday, March 28, the workshop on urban regeneration sponsored by the European Union under the ILUCIDARE project.

The Ambassadors of the European Union, Spain Portugal and Japan will attend this inauguration, along with other relevant Egyptian authorities.

This workshop, hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and World Monuments Fund Spain, comes at a crucial time for the  regeneration of Historic Cairo. Its aim is to bring international case studies in order to promote the debate amongst Egyptian Urban specialists and Conservation experts, members of the Private sector and Public Institutions in a pro active effort to collaborate on the on going plans for Urban regeneration of Historic Cairo.

This workshop has been made possible thanks to the support of Egyptian professionals from the preservation and urban planning field as well as the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science.

The workshop is coordinated by Pablo Longoria, Director of World Monuments Fund Spain and Dr Alaa el Habashi.

 World Monuments Fund is actively involved on the restoration of the Takkiyat of Ibrahim Al Gulshani in Historic Cairo, where a second workshop on restoration techniques will take place in late May.
