The United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) is now accepting applications for September 2019 admission to our postgraduate degree programmes: the Master of Science in Sustainability and the PhD in Sustainability Science. The application deadlines are 28 February 2019 for the master’s programme, and 19 April 2019 for the doctoral programme. Both programmes start in September 2019.
About the Programmes
UNU-IAS programmes aim to produce the policymakers and researchers of tomorrow, who will be at the forefront of global efforts towards a more sustainable future.
UNU-IAS students benefit from the unique opportunity to study in central Tokyo at a global university within the framework of the United Nations. Students gain both academic knowledge and practical research skills by actively contributing to the institute’s policy-oriented research projects.
Both programmes are intended for recent graduates, professionals and practitioners aiming to pursue internationally focused careers, through employment in UN agencies, other international organizations, governments, or the private sector. All lectures are conducted in English. Enrolled students also will have the opportunity to obtain credits not only from UNU-IAS but other leading universities in Japan. Joint diplomas programmes with the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Frontier Science (UT-GSFS) and Sophia University are also available.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit all application documents online. Please visit the Degree Programmes section of the UNU-IAS website to find out more about application requirements and procedures. Those who expect to receive the required qualifications before September 2019 are eligible to apply.
