Report
On 16 January 2016 the JSPS had celebrated the 30th anniversary of Cairo research station. A prestigious JSPS delegates chaired by President Y. Anzai who addressed the opening ceremony of the event. The festival was organized at Cairo university under the patronage of H.E. the Egyptian Minister of higher education and scientific research in cooperation with Cairo university. A welcome speech was presented by Prof. M. Zawrah, the executive director of the Egyptian Science and Technology development fund (STDF) the main partner of JSPS in Egypt. He highlighted the mutual fund that supported some joint project and join workshops since both organizations have signed the bilateral agreement on 2010. During the opening ceremony, President Anzai assured the higher interest for JSPS to enhance the cooperation with the Egyptian partners in funding scientific research and afford more opportunities to the young Egyptian researchers. H.E. Ambassador T. Kagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt addressed the celebration expressing the strong commitment of Japan to support various Education and research programs in cooperation with the Egyptian government presented in the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST). While in his speech, the assistant minister of ministry of higher education and scientific research Egypt, Prof. Hazem Mansour had conveyed a formal message on behalf of Prof. Ahraf Al-Shihy, the Egyptian minister about the important of collaboration with Japan in the field of scientific and technological research. He pointed out many interesting domains such as African education, national research themes,..etc.
After the formal ceremony, a mini seminar about” Egypt-Japan Research cooperation” was launched. During the seminar keynote speakers from both Japanese and Egyptian sides had presented a review and an update status of some of the mutual research projects. Among the speakers there were Prof. Hiroshi Kato of Hitotsobashi University, Prof. Eiji Nagasawa of Tokyo University and Prof. Wael Abdelmoaez of Minia University. Another session about the JSPS Cairo research station, the international section of JSPS and some experience from JSPS Alumni Association in Cairo have been presented. The seminar was concluded with a panel session about future prospect for the Egypt-Japan cooperation in science and technology, where many concluding remarks were addressed for future actions. The event was lasted by a reception addressed by a welcome note from Dr. Anzai, President of JSPS and Prof. Tantawy, char of JSPS AAE.
Dignitaries from various Egyptian universities and research institutions, JSPSAAE alumni members and post graduate students were among others who attended the seminar. The program was organized by JSPS Cairo research station and JSPS alumni association in Egypt (JSPSAAE). (Prof. Gad El-Qady)
