On October 28th, Prof. Eiji Nagasawa, Director of the JSPS Cairo Office, and Prof. Ibrahim Tantawy, President of JSPSAAE, were invited to the 3rd International Conference on Cancer “Treatment & Diagnosis”, held at the National Research Centre (NRC).
Prof. Nagasawa delivered a presentation titled “JSPS Functions, Structures, and Strategies for Funding Opportunities for Foreign Researchers and Bilateral Projects (JSPS)”, while Prof. Tantawy gave a scientific lecture entitled “Nature-Inspired Indoloquinoline Alkaloids: Paving the Future Path Towards Anticancer Therapies.”
During their visit to the NRC, they were invited by Prof. Samar Sharaf, Dean of the Textile Research and Technology Institute (TRTI), and Prof. Hossam Zakaria, Professor of Textile Technology and coordinator of the visit, to discuss and promote mutual cooperation between the Institute, the JSPS Cairo Office, and Japanese counterparts. Prof. Samar and Prof. Hossam arranged a tour of several centers of excellence and laboratories supported by JICA with the aims to support socio-economic development across various sectors, including research and industry.
They also visited the Kawabata Evaluation System (KES) Laboratory, which houses a series of instruments used to measure various textile material properties — such as mechanical properties related to comfort perception, compression, bending, surface, shearing, and tensile strength — following Japanese quality assurance and standards.
Egypt is currently witnessing an era of strong ties with Japan in the fields of education and science. Two symbolic examples of this partnership are the educational cooperation projects between Japan and Egypt — including governmental schools adopting the Japanese educational system, the Human Resource Development Project (HRDP) with the Central Mission Department (CDM) under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) in Borg El Arab, Alexandria.
