Core-to-Core Program

The newly-revised Core-to-Core Program comprises two components: (A) Advanced Research Networks and (B) Asia-Africa Science Platforms.

(A) Advanced Research Networks
These are designed to create world-class research hubs in research fields considered to be cutting-edge and internationally important in Japan. These hubs will be built and operated through sustainable collaborative relations established among research/education institutions in Japan and around the world. While advancing research in the fields of these core research hubs, this program will also concentrate on fostering the next generations of trailblazing young researchers.
* The “counterpart core institutions” must obtain project funding from funding agencies in their respective countries.

(B) Asia-Africa Science Platforms

These are designed to contribute to the solutions to problems in Asia and Africa and to support international research cooperation between Japan and research institutes in these areas by means of joint research and joint seminars.
After JSPS’s support, the adopted core institutes are required also to be research and education hubs in their fields.

Before 2012, the Asia-Africa Science Platform Program was designed to contribute to the solutions to problems in Asia and Africa and to support international research cooperation with research institutes in these areas by means of joint research and joint seminars. It started in 2005, and its calls for applications ended in 2011. Since 2012, the newly-revised Core-to-Core Programme was implemented.
