To advance science and technology in the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions, it is essential to foster talented young researchers with broad, interdisciplinary perspectives and values rooted in the region’s diverse cultures.
Since 2008, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has organized HOPE Meetings to nurture such researchers. The title “HOPE” reflects both the promise of young scientists and optimism for a bright future in science and technology within the region.
HOPE Meetings provide excellent doctoral students and young researchers—selected from countries and areas across the region—with unique opportunities to:
- Engage in interdisciplinary discussions with Nobel laureates and other distinguished scientists
- Participate in dialogues with researchers pioneering the frontiers of knowledge
- Live together for one week, fostering exchanges among participants
- Take part in cultural lectures and activities
